Getting cited in AI answers, not just ranked in the links

Search stopped being ten blue links. When Google answers the question on the results page, the click you used to earn from ranking never happens — so being quoted is the new position one. We measure whether AI search cites you, and work on closing the gap.

Why ranking is no longer the whole job

AI Overviews now appear on a large share of Australian search results, and they answer the question in place. A searcher reads the summary and never scrolls. You can hold position three and still get no traffic, because the answer arrived before the links did.

That changes the target. For informational queries you are no longer competing to be clicked — you are competing to be the source the model quotes. The technical foundations overlap with ordinary SEO, but the content shape is different: direct answers, plain definitions, real numbers, and structure a model can lift verbatim.

What the agent actually measures

  • Whether an AI Overview appears for each of your tracked keywords — and whether you are cited in it.
  • Your organic positions on google.com.au, tracked monthly so movement is visible rather than anecdotal.
  • Full technical crawl — canonicals, redirects, indexability, Core Web Vitals, structured data.
  • Backlink profile against your real competitors, and the size of the gap you actually have to close.
  • Content gaps: the questions your market is asking that nothing on your site answers.

The citation gap most businesses do not know they have

Almost every SEO tool on the market reports position and stops there. So a business can watch its rankings hold steady while its traffic quietly falls, and never see the cause — an AI Overview sitting above it, answering the question, citing somebody else.

We record citation status per keyword, per month. That turns an invisible problem into a number you can watch move. It is also the single most useful thing we can show a client in month one, because almost nobody else is measuring it.

How we work

Research first. The agent runs the full technical crawl, Search Console analysis, keyword and SERP research, competitor and backlink audit, and AI-visibility check — then a human reviews the findings before anything reaches you. No auto-generated report lands in your inbox unread.

Then a prioritised plan, ordered by what will actually move for a site with your authority. This part matters more than it sounds: the difference between SEO that works and SEO that bills is choosing which fights are winnable. Chasing the highest-volume keyword in your category is how agencies deliver movement from position 90 to 60 and call it progress.

We would rather tell you a term is unwinnable than take money to chase it.

What we will tell you honestly

SEO is slow, especially for a newer domain. A site without backlinks sits in a credibility gap no amount of content fixes. If you need customers this quarter, paid search or outbound will get there first, and we will say so rather than sell you a retainer on a promise we cannot keep.

What SEO does is compound. The work done now pays out over the following year and keeps paying without further spend — which is the opposite shape to paid, and why most businesses eventually want both.

Frequently asked questions

What is generative engine optimisation (GEO)?
GEO is optimising to be cited inside AI-generated answers — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity — rather than only to rank in the blue links. It matters because when an AI answers the question on the results page, the click you used to earn from ranking never happens. Being quoted becomes the new position one.
How is GEO different from normal SEO?
Normal SEO competes for a position. GEO competes to be the source an AI quotes. The technical foundations overlap — crawlability, structured data, clear entities — but the content shape differs: direct answers, definitions, real figures and clean structure that a model can lift verbatim.
Can you actually measure AI Overview citations?
Yes, and most tools do not. Our agent records, for every tracked keyword, whether an AI Overview appeared and whether the client was cited in it — so you can see the gap and watch it close, rather than guessing.
How long does SEO take to work for a new site?
Honestly, months. A site with no backlinks sits in a credibility gap regardless of content quality. We would rather tell you that upfront than sell you a retainer on the promise of quick rankings.
